'Twas the night before...

It is Sunday, October 8, 2006, and tomorrow I begin my voyage toward fitness. Over the course of the next 365 days, I will walk 2024 miles. I will do this by walking locally and tallying the miles, gradually reaching my goal - to walk the distance from my current home to my former high school. The choice of high school is not necessarily because I was fat in high school, and this is an "in your face, classmates!" type thing. I wasn't but 10 lbs over my "perfect weight" in high school, and I don't particularly look at that time as my "fat girl" period. I'm IN my "fat girl" period. After two children, and gestation diabetes with the second one, I'm about 285 lbs at 5'10" tall. (I'll know for sure tomorrow when I go to GNC to weigh in - me and scales don't get along, so I'll be skipping purchasing one!). So I've made horrific eating choices for the last slew of years, and I'm done. I bought a sweatsuit today with wishy-washy intentions of walking in it. But now that I've read Steve's website, (thefatmanwalking.com), I'm motivated. If he can do it, so can I. So although I won't be traipsing cross country and living in a tent, I will be doing the mileage, and I hope you'll travel along with me via this blog.

I will also be working on cooking and portioning for healthy eating. I'm not bad at this, but I tend not to do it on any kind of regular basis.

So, I will be posting my weight bi-weekly (to keep my spirits up) and my food journal and miles walked daily. Feel free to join me, or post your thoughts in response to my daily diary entries. Thanks for your support, and I look forward to the year to come!

Good luck, Eileen! I think it's a great idea.
